The number
of VOIP
vendors is increasing
giving you additional choices and
superior calling plans
I was reading a Time magazine article in the last few days and found that there is a thing called a skype phone that was sweeping the net.The two guys who started it sold their website to ebay and are now very rich because of it.So why am I getting so pumped up?.A lot of people call it voip.It is hardly a novel concept making a call to a friend over the world wide web without having to putting your hand in your pocket.
The implications are obvious, the first being that if you can connect a video phone to skipe, you can chat and see just about anyone anywhere in the world. It is essentail you get a rapid connection as quickly as you can.Video bandwidth does not justify clarity over a slow connection .
So I went on Ebay and guess what, they are peddling phones already due to skyp.I guess it's been around for about a year already but it's catching on fast..
Some of the commercial phone companies are already offering voip phone service..All the telecom gurus are watching voip closely thinking that maybe it will crash and burn.Is it here to stay or will it have vanished off the face of the net within 12 months.
My guess is that it is still in its youth and inevitably will go through a time where a lot of different firms will come up with a variety of ways to do this. The government will undoubtedly see the potential and want to add money to their coffers by using voip.Skype has to make a buck or two as well and they do this by billing consumers who phone home to their landlines from their computer.
It looks like voice over interet protocol is also at the forefront of web video conferencing as well. With 911 happenning relatively recently more people want to travel less and less so it is a great opportunity for voip to put video conferencing back on the map.
Audio and video are becoming possible for everyone nowadays-in this day and age especially with the massive success of youtube. Many people think video and audio will be a passing fad but all the evidence points in the other direction.
Over the next 5 years we will see whether the free skype download takes off in the way many gurus predict. The question remains will voip take over from the phone.
